first week down
We finished our first week of school and it went really well! It was busy with lots of extra activities so everyone was pretty tired by the end. But overall it was a huge success.
This year we will be focusing on history (Story of the World: Ancient Times), science (astronomy), Bible, memorization, math, copy work, dictation, narration, and art. We'll also spend some time on critical thinking skills. And, of course, field trips! And we will continue reading through the Christian Heroes series which we all love. Audrey is in second grade and with her we add spelling, language arts, and writing. And Liam is officially in kindergarten and he and I work on reading, writing, and sight words. They will both be doing soccer and Awana this fall for their "extra" activities.
So it's going to be busy. But also very fun.

switching gears
We made a quick trip to Chelan this last weekend. It was absolutely beautiful and we had fun in the pool with some good friends we haven't seen in awhile.
And now...we're starting school on Monday and I'm in planning mode. I love this time of year. I love fresh starts and the routine that school adds to our lives. And the kids are thrilled.
But I also get a little scared. We are already busy. My days are full just taking care of our home and family. Adding school to the mix always seems overwhelming at first. But in a few short days we'll begin again. On this adventure we've chosen. Thankful for the freedom to homeschool our children. Excited for what God has in store for us during this journey.
